Higgins also happens to be really really difficult to clean out of a fountain pen you have to disassemble the nib/feed and scrub it with a cleaning solution of some sorts, and even then the clogging is often permanent.Įven their 'fountain pen' calligraphy ink does this (I learned the hard way). On a dip pen, this is all fine and dandy, but if you try to use Higgins in a fountain pen, it will have trouble moving down the feed, and will quickly dry and clog the pen (within minutes!). To get these properties, Higgins ink is both pigmented and contains thickening agents. It's more viscous so it can be used on dip/brush/whatever pens with minimal railroading and feathering, which is nice.
